Built around the idea of a shortbread tart rather than a full pastry shell, this is an anise shortbread cookie with a thumbprint center, filled with a red-and-black plum and orange compote. 

A dusting of orange-almond crumble finishes the top. Anise is infused into the butter so it reads as a whisper of licorice warmth rather than a black jellybean.
